Project: W1 - Occupational Interests

RETURN TO W1 INTRO 

  On a separate piece of paper, draw three tables with 2 columns each. In Table 1, in the first column, make a list of things you like to do. In the second column, list a few occupations that require those activities.

Example:

Like to do Occupations
Fix and repair  things mechanic, handy person, builder
Cook chef, cook, recipe writer
Hike camp leader, ranger
Take care of animals veterinarian, zoo keeper, kennel worker

In Table 2, in the first column, copy the list of occupations you made in the first table.  In the second column, make a list of things you want to do to find out more about each occupation.

Example:

Occupations Need to Learn or Do
mechanic, handy person, builder talk to mechanics, volunteer at a repair shop, finish a building model, find out what courses I need
chef, cook, recipe writer start a book of recipes, apply as a camp cook, research what chefs do
camp leader, ranger apply for a summer job, take a few tests for ranges, talk to a few rangers
veterinarian, zoo keeper, kennel worker apply for a summer job; talk to a vet, research the education needed

In Table 3, make a list of what type of math you would need to know to work in each of the occupations you listed.

EXAMPLE:

Occupations Math
mechanic, handy person, builder fractions and decimals; volume; measuring in English and metric systems
chef, cook, recipe writer fractions, decimals, percentages, ration and proportion; measuring in English and metric systems;
camp leader, ranger measuring distances; map math; angles
veterinarian, zoo keeper, kennel worker all of the above

Print, Sign, and date your work, and place it in your folder for your instructor.
